Philadelphia (18-18) at Washington (16-19) 1:00 pm EST
WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Philadelphia 76ers may find it nearly
impossible to match the drama and emotion of their last outing.
The 76ers look for their third victory in four games Monday when
they take on the Washington Wizards in their first encounter of
the season.
After trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter to the Boston
Celtics on Friday, Philadelphia rallied to tie at the end of
regulation and eventually came away with a 125-124 triumph in
triple overtime.
Several 76ers made critical contributions down the stretch for
the win. Allen Iverson, who is the league's second-leading
scorer (33.7), had 33 points and 10 assists.
Kyle Korver made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the
second overtime to extend the contest. Chris Webber scored 33
points, grabbed 13 rebounds and stole the ball from Mark Blount
late in the third extra period to preserve the win.
Following consecutive victories over Indiana and Atlanta this
weekend, Washington has won three in a row and is 5 1/2 games
behind Miami for the top spot in the Southeast Division.
Gilbert Arenas scored 33 points and Caron Butler added 23 for
the Wizards, who won their seventh consecutive game over the
Hawks with Saturday's 114-106 overtime triumph.
The 76ers, who have won nine of the last 12 meetings against the
Wizards, are looking for back-to-back wins for the first time
since December 18-21. Philadelphia trails New Jersey by two
games in the Atlantic Division race.
