Minnesota (1-1) at LA Clippers (2-0), 10:30 pm EST
LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell faces the team he spent
the last two seasons with when the Los Angeles Clippers host
the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday.
Cassell averaged 19.8 points in 2003-04 and helped the
Timberwolves reach the Western Conference finals, but slipped
to 13.5 points last season when the Timberwolves failed to
make the postseason.
The Clippers acquired Cassell from Minnesota last August and
the veteran guard scored 35 points in a season-opening 101-93
win at Seattle on Wednesday.
Los Angeles followed with a 92-77 rout of Atlanta on Friday
behind 19 points from Cuttino Mobley and 14 from Chris Wilcox.
Minnesota kicked off its season Wednesday with a 90-86 win over
Portland, but was unable to ride the momentum into Friday,
losing in overtime at Seattle, 107-102.
As usual, Kevin Garnett was the star for Minnesota, collecting
23 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
Marko Jaric added 20 points and Wally Szczerbiak chipped in 16
for the Timberwolves, who made just 6-of-24 shots from the arc
and committed 19 turnovers.
Minnesota won three of four meetings between the teams in
2004-05.
