NEW YORK (Ticker) -- After 22 years as coach of seven different NBA franchises, Larry Brown will finally get to run his hometown team at Madison Square Garden.

Brown leads the New York Knicks in their home opener against the Washington Wizards on Friday.

Elected to the Hall of Fame in 2002, the 65-year-old Brown came to the Knicks after guiding the Detroit Pistons to the last two NBA Finals, winning the crown in 2004.

Despite an eight-point lead in the first half Wednesday, the Knicks surrendered 20 points in overtime in a 114-100 loss to the Boston Celtics. New York missed 15 free throws and committed 22 turnovers.

Stephon Marbury scored 22 points and Eddy Curry added 19 with eight rebounds in his first game since he was sidelined in March with a heart condition while with Chicago.

After making its first playoff appearance in eight years last April, Washington got 21 points and nine rebounds from Antawn Jamison to open the season with a 99-96 triumph over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

Gilbert Arenas scored 21 points and had seven assists and Brendan Haywood added 14 rebounds for the Wizards, who held the Raptors to 24 percent shooting (5-for-21) and just 14 points in the fourth quarter.
