SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- With one winning tradition preserved, the
San Antonio Spurs look to continue another when they host the
Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
San Antonio won their ninth consecutive opener Tuesday when Tony
Parker scored 26 points and Tim Duncan added 19 and 10 rebounds
in a 102-91 triumph over the Denver Nuggets.
Parker and Michael Finley combined to score 25 of the Spurs's 33
fourth-quarter points to cap a night that began with the
pregame presentation of their championship rings.
The Spurs, who were 38-3 at home last season, have dominated the
Cavaliers on their home floor through the years, winning the
last 14 regular season meetings and 30 of 33.
Former San Antonio assistant Mike Brown began his coaching
career with Cleveland on a positive note Wednesday with a 109-87
victory over the New Orleans Hornets.
LeBron James made four consecutive 3-pointers and scored 24 of
his 31 points in the first half for the Cavaliers, who shot 62
percent (13-for-21) from the arc and outrebounded the Hornets,
43-33.
Donyell Marshall scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds in
his first outing with the Cavaliers after signing as a free
agent August 2.
