Atlanta (0-1) at LA Clippers (1-0) 10:30 pm EST
LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- If Wednesday's comeback victory is any
indication of things to come, the Los Angeles Clippers are in
for a successful season.
The Clippers try to start the campaign with two victories when
they host the Atlanta Hawks in their home opener on Friday.
After trailing the Seattle SuperSonics by 13 points late in the
third quarter Wednesday, the Clippers got 15 points in the
fourth from veteran Sam Cassell to post a 101-93 triumph.
Cassell scored 35 points and dished out 11 assists in his first
game with the Clippers after he was traded by Minnesota. He
helped Los Angeles outscore Seattle, 37-18, in the final period.
James Singleton scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his
NBA debut and Quinton Ross scored 10 in place of Corey Maggette,
who has a hamstring injury.
Atlanta was hoping for a positive start after posting the
league's worst record (13-69) last season. However, the Hawks
failed to hold a 10-point halftime lead Wednesday in a 122-97
loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Al Harrington scored 18 points and Joe Johnson added 17 for the
Hawks, who allowed the Warriors to shoot 65 percent (26-for-40)
and were outscored, 75-40, in the second half.
Looking for their third straight victory in their home opener,
the Clippers have won the last four encounters with Atlanta.
