SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 28 (Ticker) -- Carmelo Anthony and the Denver
Nuggets hope to keep on rolling in the regular season.
Anthony scored 21 points and Voshon Lenard added 16 as the
Nuggets posted an 89-83 victory over the Utah Jazz in the
preseason finale for both teams.
Anthony made 7-of-13 shots in 29 minutes for the Nuggets, who
finished the preseason with seven straight wins. It will most likely
not be that easy for Denver on Tuesday, when it opens the
regular season at the defending champion San Antonio Spurs.
The Nuggets never trailed and took the lead for good, 34-32, when
Anthony's jumper with 5:59 left in the first half ignited
an 11-3 run.
Keith McLeod drew the Jazz within 55-49 with 8:19 remaining in
the third quarter, but Utah failed to make a basket over the
next seven minutes, going 0-of-7 from the field and committing
five turnovers, as the Nuggets pulled away with a 10-2 spurt.
Mehmet Okur scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting for Utah, which
shot 41 percent (28-of-69) and plays its regular season opener
Wednesday against Dallas.
Denver played without Marcus Camby (foot) and Kenyon Martin
(knee), although both are expected to be ready for the season
opener. Carlos Boozer did not dress for Utah with a strained
left hamstring.
