DALLAS, Oct. 27 (Ticker) -- Keith Van Horn scored 22 points, including a three-point play that triggered a decisive fourth-quarter run, as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Detroit Pistons, 103-97, in preseason action.

Van Horn came off the bench to make 6-of-13 shots, including three 3-pointers. He sank a jumper and was fouled, making the free throw to give Dallas the lead for good at 84-82 with 7:59 left.

The play started a 13-2 surge for the Mavericks capped at 94-82 on a basket by Marquis Daniels with 4:29 to go.

Daniels and Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 points apiece and Jason Terry added 15 for the Mavericks, who shot 49 percent (36-of-73).

In the second quarter, Nowitzki blocked a driving layup by Carlos Arroyo and the two became entangled. The two pulled away from each other and Arroyo went after Nowitzki - and was ejected.

Richard Hamilton scored 18 points and Chauncey Billups added 13 for the Pistons. Third-year forward Darko Milicic blocked six shots and first-round pick Jason Maxiell scored 10 points in seven minutes.
