LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (Ticker) -- Voshon Lenard and Earl Watson displayed the phenomenal backcourt depth that the Denver Nuggets will enjoy this season.

Lenard scored 19 points and Watson chipped in with seven assists as the Nuggets posted a 97-91 preseason victory over the Washington Wizards.

Despite missing all but three games last year with an Achilles injury, Lenard has the inside track on Denver's starting shooting guard position. The Nuggets' most dangerous perimeter threat, Lenard went 7-for-14 from the field and connected on a pair of 3-pointers.

Watson, who signed with Denver in the offseason, will team with Earl Boykins to back up starting point guard Andre Miller. Boykins, who did not play, averaged 12.4 points last year and emerged as one of the league's premier small scoring guards.

DerMarr Johnson, who also will be in the Nuggets' backcourt mix, added 17 points while Nigel Dixon grabbed 13 rebounds.

Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin and Marcus Camby also did not play for Denver, which used a 9-2 run to take a 77-69 lead after three quarters.

Etan Thomas scored 12 points for the Wizards while newcomer Antonio Daniels chipped in with 10.
