LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20 (Ticker) -- Chucky Atkins scored 14 of his 18
points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead the Washington
Wizards to a 96-89 preseason victory over the Charlotte
Bobcats.
Atkins scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, when the Wizards
rallied and forged an 85-85 tie on a free throw by Jared Jeffries with 32 seconds left.
Washington All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas fired an airball on a
3-pointer at the end of regulation, but the Wizards scored the
first nine points of overtime. Atkins had two free throws and a
hoop in the surge, which opened a 94-85 bulge with 1:51 to go.
Arenas scored 24 points, Jeffries added 18 and Antawn Jamison 12
for the Wizards, who played without forward Jarvis Hayes.
First-round pick Raymond Felton had 12 points and 10 assists but
made just 4-of-16 shots for the Bobcats, who had six scorers in
double figures. Emeka Okafor, the 2005 Rookie of the Year,
grabbed 13 rebounds.
After halftime, Charlotte was without Gerald Wallace (wrist) and
Brevin Knight (flu-like symptoms).
The teams combined for 63 fouls and 51 turnovers.
