MIAMI, Oct. 18 (Ticker) -- Grant Hill put the Orlando Magic on his back
early, but Dorell Wright came on late to lead the Miami Heat to
victory.
Wright scored 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter as the
Heat notched a 95-91 preseason victory over the Magic.
Trailing 69-66 after three quarters, Miami scored the first five
points of the final period to take the lead. A dunk by Wright
with 9:39 to play gave the Heat the lead for good, 73-71. He
got loose for another jam to make it 91-85 with 1:30 remaining
and hit two free throws with 5.6 seconds left.
A 6-8 forward selected 19th in the 2004 draft, Wright played
just nine minutes as a rookie and 11 minutes in two preseason
games entering Monday. He made the most of his 27 minutes
against the Magic, sinking 6-of-13 shots overall and adding a
pair of steals in the fourth quarter.
Hill scored 17 points in the first half for Orlando, hitting
6-of-9 shots and all five free throws. He did not score in six
minutes in the second half.
Despite Hill's hot start, the Magic were cold, shooting 39
percent.
Dwyane Wade scored 15 points and Gary Payton and Antoine Walker
each added 14 for Miami. Former Heat Keyon Dooling scored 19
points for Orlando.
Heat big men Shaquille O'Neal and Michael Doleac each sat out
with strained left calfs while Orlando was without Steve Francis
(sprained right ankle).
