The fifth overall selection in the 2004 draft, Harris averaged just over 15 minutes in 76 games in his rookie campaign and is expected to back up Jason Terry at point guard.

On Tuesday, Harris made 8-of-12 shots in 22 minutes and scored 10 points in a 13-1 run that opened the fourth quarter, giving the Mavericks a 79-68 lead.

Detroit cut its deficit to 90-88 on first-round pick Jason Maxiell's jumper with 19 seconds remaining, but Harris hit a layup on the other end to all but seal the win.

Terry, who did not play in the final period, scored 15 points and Marquis Daniels added 10 and seven rebounds for Dallas, which made 6-of-10 3-pointers.

Rasheed Wallace led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points for the Pistons, who committed 17 turnovers en route to their first preseason loss.

The Mavericks played without swingman Jerry Stackhouse, who is nursing a sore right knee.
