MIAMI, Oct. 15 (Ticker) -- Emeka Okafor showed he is intent on building off a stellar rookie campaign.

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, Okafor scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half as the Charlotte Bobcats coasted to an 82-72 preseason win over the Miami Heat.

Okafor, who averaged 15.1 points and 10.9 rebounds last season, sat out the Bobcats' first two preseason games with an ankle injury but came back strong. He was 4-of-7 from the floor and had four rebounds in the opening half, when Charlotte built a 45-39 lead.

Jake Voskuhl, also a product of the University of Connecticut, scored seven of his 16 points in the third quarter, when the Bobcats broke it open and took a 73-53 lead.

Also returning from an ankle injury, Melvin Ely scored 10 points for Charlotte, which also got 10 from Brevin Knight and Keith Bogans in recording its first preseason win.

The Heat turned over the ball 25 times and shot just 48 percent (20-of-42) from the line. All-Star guard Dwyane Wade scored 18 points and new acquisition Antoine Walker added 11.

Wayne Simien, the 29th overall pick in this year's draft, scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in 16 minutes for Miami.
