SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Spurs will need to shoot better if they hope to tie their opening round playoff series with the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.

San Antonio, which was 38-3 at home during the regular season, missed 17 shots during a 10-minute stretch of the fourth quarter in a 93-87 loss in the Western Conference series opener on Sunday.

Andre Miller made 11 of his first 16 shots and scored 24 of his playoff career-high 31 points in the first half. Carmelo Anthony added 14 points and Marcus Camby collected 12 and 12 rebounds for the Nuggets, who have won 26 of 30 games since the All-Star break.

Although shooting just 6-of-19 in the fourth quarter, the Nuggets held the Spurs to 12 points, which set a franchise playoff record for fewest points allowed in a quarter.

Two-time league Most Valuable Player Tim Duncan, who sat out 12 games with a sprained ankle late in the season, missed seven straight shots down the stretch and finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs.

Manu Ginobili scored a playoff career-high 23 points and Nazr Mohammed added 15 and 15 rebounds for San Antonio.

Game Three will be played on Saturday in Denver, where the Nuggets have won 19 of 20 games since George Karl became coach.
