MILWAUKEE, March 8 (Ticker) -- Maurice Williams had a strong finish to help the Milwaukee Bucks avoid an embarrassing home loss

Williams scored 22 points and 10 assists as the Bucks handed the Atlanta Hawks their 12th consecutive loss with a 105-101 victory.

The Bucks won the season series by taking two of three meetings, while the woeful Hawks dropped their 22nd consecutive road game and are 2-29 away from home. The Bucks took the lead for good at 91-89 on a three-point play by Marcus Fizer. Williams added a jumper to make it 93-89 with 4:47 left.

"In crunch time, you can't give up a layup," Atlanta coach Mike Woodson said of Fizer's three-point play. "You've got to take him down, make him get points from the line."

Moments later, Williams stole the ball from Atlanta center Obinna Ekezie near the foul circle, was fouled by Ekezie and made both free throws to give Milwaukee a 99-94 edge with 1:55 to go.

The Atlanta bench was lobbying for a jump-ball call, but to no avail.

"He had my whole left arm," Williams said. "It was definitely a foul, definitely a good call. I just to come out every night and play well, be real solid for my ballclub and run the team."

Williams, who recorded his seventh double-double of the season, made a running layup high off the glass with 44 seconds remaining to give Milwaukee a 101-96 advantage.

"That's something Terry (Milwaukee coach Terry Porter) was barking on all game, penetrate and create for your teammates," Williams said. "When they weren't open, I had to take it to the hoop. I was trying to get in the lane."

After Atlanta called timeout, Tyronn Lue made a 3-pointer, cutting the margin to 101-99 with 40 seconds to go before Joe Smith helped seal the win by nailing a jumper with 19 seconds remaining.

Desmond Mason scored 22 points, Michael Redd added 21 and Smith 19 for Milwaukee, which has won 12 of its last 13 home meetings with Atlanta.

"The last couple (of) nights, they've all been close," Redd said. "That's been our season. Tonight, Joe hit a few big shots and Mo made plays down the stretch.

Lue scored a season-high 27 points and Al Harrington added 19 for the Hawks (10-49), who have dropped 15 of 16 and have the league's worst record.

"I thought that we played hard," Lue said. "Usually in the fourth, we have been giving up big leads and we can't get back in it. We fought to the end tonight. We just weren't able to come out with the win."

"It was one of those games," Woodson said. "We were right there. We fought. We just didn't get it done. We jumped out on them right out of the chute. We just didn't hold on. The positive side is we are competing from the beginning."
