Cleveland trailed at the half, 54-45, but tied the game, 67-67, on a jumper by Jeff McInnis with 4:47 left in the third quarter. But Seattle closed the quarter with an 11-2 run to seize control.
"We had the ball tied at 67 and we had a wide-open look and turned it over," Cleveland coach Paul Silas said. "That caused a four-point swing and we never recovered from there."
LeBron James had a strong game for the Cavaliers (31-25) with 32 points, but it was not enough to keep the Sonics (40-16) from winning for the eighth time in their last 10 road games.
"As a team, I felt like we had a better rhythm than we've had in weeks," said Seattle coach Nate McMillan, whose team posted a 101-93 win at Indiana on Tuesday. "I thought we had control of this game for four quarters."
"It's a great feeling to come to the East Coast and win games," Seattle's Vladimir Radmanovic added.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 17 points for Cleveland, which received only eight points from its bench.
"We had rougher times than this last year," James said. "The good thing is that we are still in the playoff hunt, and we just have to turn it around."
Rashard Lewis scored 20 points and Radmanovic added 19 off the bench for Seattle, which swept the season series from Cleveland and won for the ninth time in its last 10 trips to Gund Arena.
"I didn't want to say anything to the team (about getting their 40th win tonight)," Allen said. "But quietly, that's what I was thinking about. That's a big landmark at this point in the season."
Radmanovic scored 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Sonics. He was 5-of-8 from the arc and has scored 42 points in two games against Cleveland this season.
"I've been struggling with my shot the last couple of weeks," Radmanovic said. "I've had a wrist injury, so it's not completely healed yet, but I'm just trying to get back in the game and do my thing."
