DENVER (Ticker) -- The Denver Nuggets look to right the ship at
home Tuesday when they host the Seattle SuperSonics at the Pepsi
Center.
Projected to improve upon its 43-win 2003-04 season, the Nuggets
have limped out of the gate. They lost shooting guard Voshon
Lenard to an Achilles tear on opening night and, after a win
over the Minnesota Timberwolves, dropped back-to-back games to
the surging Utah Jazz.
In a home-and-home set with the Jazz, Denver was defeated by 24
and 11 points, respectively. The games were essentially decided
in the second quarter when Utah outscored the Nuggets by a
combined score of 56-26.
Denver has been a miserable shooting team thus far. Its 42
percent mark in Monday's loss to the Jazz represents its best
effort from the field, and the club is shooting just 37 percent
for the season.
Much of that blame can fall on second-year star Carmelo Anthony,
who is just 22-of-81 from the floor (27 percent) and has made
only 1-of-10 from 3-point range.
The SuperSonics may not be the team the Nuggets need to see
right now. After a 30-point loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in
its opener, Seattle won a pair at home, including an impressive
113-94 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.
The high-scoring duo of Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis combined for
51 points and, perhaps more importantly, Danny Fortson pulled
down 13 rebounds. The Sonics were the worst rebounding team in
the league last season but have won the battle of the boards in
its two wins.
Denver has not lost a season series to Seattle since 1994-95 and
owns a 25-7 advantage since.
