LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Oct. 16 (Ticker) -- Dwyane Wade appears ready to prove he will not be bothered by a sophomore jinx.

Wade, a unanimous selection to the NBA's All-Rookie Team last season, scored 20 points to help the Miami Heat to their second preseason victory in as many nights, an 83-74 win over the Detroit Pistons.

Each team played without their starting centers. Miami's Shaquille O'Neal sat out again with tightness in his hamstring. Detroit's Ben Wallace is still recovering from an appendectomy.

The defending NBA champion Pistons also were without Rasheed Wallace, who has a sore back.

The Heat took control in the third period with a 23-6 run capped by jumper by Damon Jones that gave Miami a 70-52 lead.

Caron Butler scored 11 points and Michael Doleac and Jones added 10 each for the Heat.

Smush Parker and Chauncey Billups were the only Pistons in double figures. Parker, who did not play in the NBA last season after spending the 2002-03 campaign with Cleveland, scored 11 points and Billups added 10.

Assistant Garfield Heard coached the Pistons in place of Larry Brown. A team official said Brown was not feeling well and should be back on the sideline when Detroit faces Minnesota on Sunday.
