MEMPHIS, Tennessee, Oct. 8 (Ticker) -- Steve Francis scored 30 points
and Cuttino Mobley added 17 as the Houston Rockets posted a
106-98 preseason victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Rookie Drew Gooden had an impressive debut with 26 points for
Memphis. Gooden, selected with the fourth overall selection by
new general manager Jerry West, was the Big 12 Conference Player
of the Year last season at Kansas.
Mobley and Terence Morris each added 17 points for Houston. The
Rockets played without guard Moochie Norris, who sat out with a
foot injury and forward Glen Rice, who missed the contest with
sore knees.
Memphis played without Rookie of the Year Pau Gasol, who was out
with a left wrist sprain. Wesley Person, acquired from
Cleveland in the offseason, chipped in 15 points
Stromile Swift led all returning Grizzlies with 13 points.
