PHOENIX, April 9 (Ticker) -- Dan Majerle may be retiring at the end of the season, but he can still shoot the lights out from beyond the arc.

Majerle hit two clutch 3-pointers down the stretch as the Phoenix Suns snapped a four-game losing streak with a 99-92 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics.

After Predrag Drobnjak hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 88, Majerle connected from the arc to give Phoenix the lead for good, 91-88, with 2:18 left. The 36-year-old veteran, who began his NBA career in 1988, closed the scoring with his third 3-pointer of the contest with 15 seconds to go, and finished with 11 points.

"Dan hit a huge three," Suns coach Frank Johnson said. "No one should be surprised with him hitting shots like that. If you guys could help me talk him out of retirement, I'd be so indebted to you."

"I hate for it to happen against us, but it's great for Dan to have a few last thrills (before he) retires and rides off into the Arizona sunset," said Seattle's Brent Barry, who played with Majerle in Miami during part of the 1997-98 season. "He's had a great career and obviously been a great teammate and a tremendous competitor. Everybody in Phoenix here loves Dan Majerle."

Stephon Marbury had 27 points to lead six Suns in double figures. Marbury shot 11-of-16 and handed out 11 assists as Phoenix earned a split of its season series with Seattle.

"I thought that Steph was outstanding," Johnson said. "He certainly controlled the team, ran it. Guys off the bench were huge, Dan, Jake (Voskuhl), Alton (Ford). We had an outstanding practice yesterday and I told the guys that it certainly carried over to the game."

Gary Payton had 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists and Barry 18 points and six assists for Seattle, which had clinched a Western Conference playoff berth 24 hours earlier with a 102-100 home triumph over the Los Angeles Clippers.

"It's over with," Payton said. "We aren't going to worry about this game no more. We just want to keep playing hard. We just want to win games. People have to understand that we have to get tuned up for the playoffs so mistakes like turning the ball over and giving up offensive rebounds are going to hurt us. We've got to focus more on that."

The teams combined for 30 turnovers.

"We didn't take care of the ball," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "You can't have 14 turnovers and give a team 11 second opportunities. We haven't rebounded the ball all season and tonight was the same case. You've got to show better patience, take care of the ball and rebound the ball. That's the difference in this game."

Phoenix led 27-18 after one quarter and 39-27 before Seattle went on a 14-2 run to tie the game with three minutes to go in the first half.

"We came out and just played good team defense early," said Shawn Marion, who had 12 points for the Suns. "We just kept playing it the whole night, and we had a couple turnovers earlier, but other than that, I think we played good team defense tonight."

Phoenix took a 50-44 lead into halftime and a 75-68 advantage into the fourth quarter. "We're not packing it in," said Marbury, whose team will not play in the postseason. "We're going out and playing as hard as we can. Some games it may not look that way because we're losing, but I think guys have a lot of pride."
