PORTLAND, Ore., March 8 (Ticker) -- The Portland Trail Blazers continue to look unstoppable while the New Jersey Nets appear to be running out of steam.

Bonzi Wells scored 21 points and Rasheed Wallace added 18 as the Blazers secured the second-longest winning streak in franchise history with their 12th straight victory, an 82-73 triumph over the struggling Nets.

Portland spent the first half of the season as one of the most inconsistent teams in the league but has won 13 of 14 games since the All-Star break. The Blazers have not lost since Feb. 15, winning 12 consecutive games for the first time since a franchise record 16-game run during the 1990-91 season.

"Whoever would've thunk it?" Portland coach Maurice Cheeks said. "At some point of course it's going to end, that's inevitable. The way we're thinking about it is not how long the streak lasts or what it has achieved for us, but that we have much further to go to reach some of our team's hopes and goals."

New Jersey is heading in the opposite direction. After playing like the best team in the Eastern Conference for the first four months of the season, the Nets have dropped five of their last six games and fell to 0-3 on a four-game road trip, matching their longest slide of the season.

"We still have a lot of games left in the season," Nets coach Byron Scott said. "(The players) are upset. They should be upset. We haven't won a game. Moral victories don't count for anything in this league at this stage of the season. It's been a very tough road trip."

New Jersey never led in the second half but tied it 53-53 on Kenyon Martin's dunk with 5:27 left in the third quarter. But the Blazers responded with seven straight points as the Nets went scoreless for more than four minutes.

Wells opened the burst with a dunk to give Portland the lead for good, 55-53 with 4:20 to go. He sank a pair of free throws and Dale Davis made 1-of-2 before Ruben Patterson capped the burst with a layup for a 60-53 lead.

Rookie Jason Collins made a layup with 63 seconds left to give New Jersey its first basket since Martin's game-tying dunk. He beat the third-quarter buzzer with a follow shot to bring the Nets within 65-59.

New Jersey got within five points twice in the fourth quarter, but Portland responded both times. Patterson made a layup with 9:04 remaining for a 70-63 edge. Scottie Pippen's 3-pointer with 6:11 left gave the Blazers a 76-68 cushion and sparked an 8-2 game-clinching run.

Pippen had 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Portland, which has won five straight home games.

"Our confidence is really high right now," Pippen said. "We're playing well together. We're playing real poised. Any time you're on a streak you want it to last. You like to keep playing a long as you're winning."

The Blazers shot just 43 percent (31-of-72) from the field but made 6-of-13 3-pointers. They held a 47-32 rebounding edge to overcome 23 turnovers.

"The thing that really hurt us tonight is that they kept crashing the boards," Scott said. "They are a big, strong, physical basketball team and they are playing well. They dominated us on the boards and that's why they won the game."

"For the second straight night our offense generally was a little stagnant," Cheeks said. "Those 23 turnovers were way too many. I think the key was pushing ourselves back defensively. It kept them from getting out in the open court. It didn't help their cause much, because they missed a lot of shots."

New Jersey shot just 40 percent (31-of-76) and was 0-of-10 from 3-point range.

Martin finished with 19 points and Kerry Kittles added 16 for the Nets, who have lost four straight road games.

Keith Van Horn collected 12 points and nine rebounds and Jason Kidd had 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds for New Jersey.
