The North Carolina native scored his team's final eight points, including a driving layup with 3.7 seconds left, as the Detroit Pistons overcame a fourth-quarter meltdown to post an 83-81 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.
"It's great to get a win here," said Stackhouse, who purchased 65 tickets for his friends and family members. "It's a little trade-off for all the tickets I bought."
After Stackhouse's basket gave the Pistons the lead, the Hornets never got a shot off on their final possession as Clifford Robinson stripped Baron Davis at the left elbow as time expired.

"We set the play up for Baron," Charlotte coach Paul Silas said. "Actually, they did a very good job of double-teaming the ball and they were able to make the stop and get the win."
Stackhouse scored 28 points and made all 14 foul shots as the surging Pistons (34-23) won for the eighth time in their last nine games and moved a season-high 11 games over .500.
"We have been on a very good roll," he said. "We have a lot of guys playing well right now and that's a rarity in this league. We're playing nine guys and nine guys are playing well."
Elden Campbell scored 23 points and Jamal Mashburn added 18 for the Hornets.
The Pistons went ahead late in the first quarter and appeared to be in control, leading by as many as 13 points. But Charlotte erased a 75-65 deficit with a 12-0 run and took a 77-75 lead on P.J.Brown's jumper with 3:59 remaining.
Stackhouse kept the Pistons alive by making six free throws down the stretch.
"We made some phenomenal defensive plays in the last two minutes," Detroit coach Rick Carlisle said. "Everybody played hard, but the biggest thing we needed to do today was rebound the ball. We tied them at 44 (rebounds) and that means you're playing hard and pursuing the ball."
Corliss Williamson added 19 points for Detroit, which maintained its lead over Milwaukee in the Central Division.
Robinson contributed 10 points and was huge on the defenive end with a pair of crucial blocks in the final minutes.
"We came out with a lot of energy but we had to make sure our energy stayed up on both ends of the floor," he said. "We had to make some plays to make sure we did what we needed to do."
With Charlotte leading, 77-75, Stackhouse sparked the Pistons by blocking Campbell's driving layup. On Charlotte's next possession, Brown appeared to be going up for a dunk, but Robinson rejected the shot from behind.
Stackhouse ended Detroit's six-minute drought with a pair from the line with 2:14 left. After Campbell's free throws put the Hornets up, 79-77, Stackhouse hit four to give Detroit an 81-79 lead.
Campbell's dunk tied it with a minute left and Stackhouse missed a foul-line leaner, giving Charlotte a chance to take the lead. But Michael Curry stripped Mashburn as he drove into the lane.
The Pistons called timeout with 16 seconds left and got the ball into Stackhhouse's hands at the top of the key. He drove hard to the basket, laying the ball in off the glass with his left hand.
"They cheated over the pick-and-roll," Stackhouse said. "I was able to get to the middle and get down the lane. Elden came over but I was able to get the ball up to the glass and get the shot down."
Charlotte (29-30) dropped under .500 and has only a one-half game lead over eighth-place Indiana in the Eastern Conference playoff scramble. To make matters worse, the Hornets begin a four-game West Coast trip in Seattle on Thursday.
"It could be good for us to go out west on a losing note because we could be a little hungrier," Mashburn said.
