LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18 (Ticker) -- Damon Stoudamire hit the go-ahead jumper with three seconds left as the Portland Trail Blazers edged the Los Angeles Clippers, 80-79, and won the season series between the teams for the 21st time in the last 23 campaigns.

Los Angeles split the other two series with the Trail Blazers, -- in 1995-96 and 2000-2001 -- but has not won a series with Portland since the 1973-74 season, when the Clippers were the Buffalo Braves.

A basket by Rasheed Wallace less than a minute into the fourth quarter left Portland with a 64-51 lead. But Los Angeles went on a 26-10 run that was capped by a layup by Jeff McInnis with 2:32 left.

Following a timeout, Quentin Richardson scored on a layup with one second left on the shot clock to give the Clippers a 79-76 edge with 1:42 remaining.

Scottie Pippen and Ruben Patterson each hit 1-of-2 free throws before Stoudamire's heroics. The 5-10 point guard cleared space against 5-5 Earl Boykins with a nasty crossover dribble, leaned back and sank the jumper from just inside the 3-point line on the left wing.

"I basically was just trying to get to a spot on the floor where I knew I could make a shot," Stoudamire said. "Earl's a smaller defender than McInnis (who had fouled out), so I was able to shoot right over him."

After a timeout, Boykins drove the left baseline but his shot hit the side of the backboard just before the buzzer.

Stoudamire had 15 points for Portland, which won three of the four games with Los Angeles this season. Wallace added 14 and Patterson 13 for the Trail Blazers, who have won 18 of 22 against the Clippers.

Dale Davis chipped in 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Blazers, who outrebounded the Clippers, 55-45.

"I thought we played pretty good through three quarters of play, then we stopped executing down the stretch," Davis said. "But we were still able to pull out a win against a very athletic Clippers team."

Though Portland shot only 41 percent (32-of-78), it limited Los Angeles to 33 percent (29-of-88).

Richardson scored 16 points to pace Los Angeles, which fell two games behind Seattle for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Portland is seventh place, three games ahead of the Clippers.

"That's probably the thing that hurts the most," Richardson said. "This is one of the teams we're in the race with."

Michael Olowokandi registered 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Clippers. Elton Brand had 16 rebounds but shot just 3-of-15 and scored only eight points.

Eric Piatkowski, who recorded a career-high 36 points in the Clippers' 119-110 victory over Dallas on Saturday, was 0-of-9 and finished with three points.

Darius Miles left the game late in the second quarter after spraining his right shoulder. Miles drove to the hoop, collided with Bonzi Wells and fell hard to the ground, but he returned with 3:18 left in the third quarter and finished with 15 points.

"My arm is hurting real bad but I'm trying to make the playoffs so that is why I came back to play," Miles said. "But my arm feels real heavy and weak. I can't move it. I'm going to put it in a sling."

Though the Clippers shot only 31 percent (14-of-45) in the first half, they trailed just 42-37 at the break.

The Blazers took their biggest lead, 62-49, on a 22-foot jumper by Derek Anderson with 2:12 left in the third quarter. No other points were scored the rest of the period.

Los Angeles shot just 13 percent (3-of-24) en route to their 12-point third quarter.

"We didn't shoot very well tonight but we still had a chance to win," Richardson said. "But they made some big shots and we missed a couple of stops that would have helped us, but instead we just came up short tonight."

The Clippers next embark on a five-game road trip. After one home contest, they play another four in a row away from the Staples Center.

"Going on the road is going to be a test," Olowokandi said. "How we perform and what character we show on the road will be a true indicator of how bad we want this. We have to go on the road and try to accumulate as many wins as we possibly can. We just have to do our part."
