CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 17 (Ticker) -- Stromile Swift and Jason Williams could not sit and watch the Memphis Grizzlies' rare victory over the shooting-challenged Charlotte Hornets slip away.

Swift came off the bench to score 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Williams returned from toe surgery to add 17 as the Grizzlies won for just the second time in 12 all-time meetings with the Hornets, 92-78.

Swift tallied eight points in the final period as Memphis rallied from a five-point deficit after three quarters and ended its three-game losing streak.

"My success for 8-of-9 shooting from the field was running in transition on offense and going to the offensive glass," Swift said. "We played great defense down the stretch and grabbed a few offensive boards and that was the key to the game."

Baron Davis scored 10 of his 14 points in the third quarter as Charlotte outscored Memphis in the period, 25-14. Davis made a layup with under two seconds to go as the Hornets took a 65-60 lead into the final quarter.

Elden Campbell and Lee Nailon scored 17 points each to lead the Hornets (25-26), who shot just 34 percent (28-of-82) from the field and failed in a bid to move above .500 for the first time since the opening week of the season.

Williams scored seven points in the final period. He nailed a 25-footer with 9:38 to play to give the Grizzlies the lead, 69-67.

"It's a big win for us," Williams said. "We know what we're capable of. We just have to outwork other teams. Our defense won the game for us at the end."

Jamaal Magloire tied it for Charlotte just under a minute later, converting a pair of free throws to make the score 71-71.

But Magloire committed a turnover, which allowed reserve point guard Brevin Knight to distribute one of his 11 assists to Swift for a five-foot jumper that put Memphis ahead.

Magloire threw another errant pass on Charlotte's ensuing possession, prompting Hornets coach Paul Silas to replace him with P.J. Brown.

"It was a bad game all night," Silas said. "This was a loss we didn't need. We just have to move on. I told the guys that we have to see what we're made of."

Davis hit the second of two free throws to reduce Charlotte's deficit to 73-72 with under seven minutes left.

Memphis rookie Shane Battier missed a layup at the other end, but Lorenzen Wright grabbed one of his three offensive rebounds. Battier took his second chance, nailing a shot from 3-point range to give the Grizzlies a four-point cushion.

Battier contributed 17 points and six assists.

"The Hornets are a physical team and the only way to beat them is to match their physicalness," Battier said.

Wright pulled down nine rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench.

Williams hit consecutive jumpers from about 20 feet to open an 80-72 advantage for the Grizzlies with just over five minutes to play.

"We played a great fourth quarter today," Grizzlies coach Sidney Lowe said. "We were active defensively and offensively, we moved the ball well. We made big plays when we had to. Jason hit some big shots."

At the other end, Swift blocked George Lynch's shot. Battier rewarded his teammate by setting up Swift's layup that increased the lead to 10 with 4:36 left and gave Silas cause for a timeout.

"We had our chances tonight. But we didn't have enough energy, didn't have enough oomph," Silas said. "We got off to a horrendous start and never got in sync totally."

Charlotte shot a dismal 12.5 percent (3-for-24) from the field in the first quarter and finished the period with a season-low 12 points.

Memphis appeared to be in command in the second when Knight converted a three-point play with 9:57 to go, opening a 29-16 advantage.

But Davis hit a free throw with 6.6 seconds remaining as the Hornets closed the half with a 7-0 burst and pulled to within 46-40.
