WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 (Ticker) -- After a sub-par performance in his last outing against the Indiana Pacers, Michael Jordan made sure things were different this time around.

Jordan scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half and Richard Hamilton contributed 21 as the Washington Wizards rolled to their third straight win, 109-89 over the Pacers.

The Wizards opened a commanding advantage late in the third quarter. Courtney Alexander, who came off the bench to score 15, capped a 13-0 run and gave Washington an 81-63 lead with a 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining in the period.

A five-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Jordan struggled in Indianapolis on Dec. 27, finishing with six points on 2-of-10 shooting and sitting out the final 15 minutes. He had scored at least 10 points in 866 consecutive games prior to that contest.

"Needless to say, this was a very gratifying win against a team that gave us one of our most humiliating losses of the year and a team that basically just outran us the first two times we played," Wizards coach Doug Collins said.

Jalen Rose led the Pacers on Sunday, collecting 21 of his 27 points in the second half. But the Indiana swingman was ejected with 4:11 left, picking up his second technical foul following a verbal exchange with Jordan regarding Rose's physical play.

The Pacers scored just six points thereafter.

"Certain teams just feel like they've got to play you physical," Jordan said. "I have the highest regard for Jalen, and I'm pretty sure he has the same for me. Unfortunately, it escalated to the point where we got double-technicals, and he had one. That's the way the ball bounces."

"He was trying to get physical with me, he definitely was," Rose said. "It's just unfortunate that I was ejected. I wish I could've found a way to stay in the game. I was trying to be conscious of not doing anything stupid like throw a punch or anything that was going to get me ejected, but it still happened."

After battling with Rose to work his way free, Jordan scored on a layup, giving the Wizards a 97-83 cushion. As the Wizards' leading scorer turned to run to the defensive end, Rose was there to meet Jordan with a shoulder check.

Words were exchanged between Jordan and Rose as they ran down the court. The pair were standing nose-to-nose when they were separated.

"I said: 'If that's the way you want to play the game, then let's play the game that way,'" Jordan said. "You know me, I just want to go out and play straight up. ... But if that's the way he wanted to play it -- with anybody -- I'll play it that way. I have no problem with that."

"To be honest, really, we've jostled pretty much since that (Chicago Bulls) sixth championship season when we played those guys in a seven-game series," Rose said of their encounter in the 1998 Eastern Conference finals. "There's been indirect jostling every time we've played against one another. That's just part of the game, I guess."

Indiana, which has lost eight of 12 overall, lost for just the second time in 17 matchups with Washington.

With Washington leading Indiana by six at halftime, Jordan and Rose tried to spark their respective teams in the third quarter.

Jordan scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while Rose tallied 12 in the period. But the Wizards took full advantage of their 6-1 edge in offensive rebounds, converting them into a 12-2 second-chance points margin.

"That was the difference in the ball game. It was 28-8 (in second-chance points)," Pacers coach Isiah Thomas said. "We lost by 20 and that was the difference in the game. We couldn't control the glass tonight. We would get stops and they would pick it up and lay it in."

Making just his third start of the season, Washington's Tyrone Nesby was active on the boards. The 6-6 forward pulled down 10 boards, including five on the offensive end. He also added 10 points.

"Tyrone did an excellent job coming off the bench, he gave us a lot of energy in the starting lineup," Hamilton said.

The Wizards took over in the final 3 1/2 minutes of the third. Washington led by five when Chris Whitney converted a free throw after Indiana's Jonathan Bender was whistled for a defensive three-second violation.

Just seconds later, Whitney nailed a 3-pointer to open a 72-63 cushion for the Wizards.

Whitney finished with 18 points, going 3-of-4 from beyond the circle.

Jordan hit a fade-away jump to push Washington's lead to double digits. The All-Star guard then dished to Hamilton for a 3-pointer and helped the Wizards grab a 77-63 advantage with 2:18 to go in the third.

Hamilton scored 12 points and recorded three assists . Washington never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 31-25 lead over Indiana after 12 minutes.
