With a true home crowd behind them, the Clippers got big games from Corey Maggette and Elton Brand and rallied for a 95-90 victory over the sputtering Lakers.
It was the fifth straight home win for the Clippers, who have shared the gigantic Staples Center with the Lakers since the glistening facility opened prior to the 1999-2000 season.
During that time, it has appeared the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers have been the owners, with the Clippers just a tenant. The Clippers had lost 18 of the last 19 meetings and never had beaten the Lakers as the home team here.

"It was our crowd," Brand said. "The fans really stepped up and gave us a boost."
Maggette got them back in it by scoring 18 of his career-high 28 points in the third quarter. He talked so much trash to Bryant he received a warning from referee Bennett Salvatore.
"We were just having fun," Maggette said. "My job is to play hard defense and score 10-12 points. Sometimes you get into a rhythm and I got into one tonight."
Maggette's 3-pointer gave the Clippers the lead for good at 75-72 with 10:49 remaining and Brand took over, scoring 10 points in the final 10 minutes. He had consecutive baskets that gave the Clippers a 93-86 lead with 1:42 to play.
"I wanted the ball," Brand said. "I felt when I had it I'd make a play for myself and my teammates. I had a lot of confidence."
Brand collected 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Clippers, who had been just 1-9 against the Lakers since the Staples Center opened.
"This is bragging rights," Clippers guard Jeff McInnis said. "We respect them, but we just wanted to win and show we could play, too."
Bryant scored 27 points and Shaquille O'Neal added 24 and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who have lost two in a row and five of seven. They have dropped their last four with O'Neal in the lineup.
"Who says we should beat this team?" Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "They are playing better than we are right now."
"Two losses in a row, two rings in a row," Bryant said. "It's a long season. You take the good with the bad."
Two free throws by Bryant and a hook by O'Neal pulled the Lakers within 88-86 with 3:12 remaining. Brand answered with a jumper from the baseline and another from the left wing, drawing a foul from Samaki Walker.
The final 90 seconds were frenetic but featured just one basket -- a 3-pointer by Devean George that pulled the Lakers within 93-90 with 1:22 left. Brand missed a jumper but atoned two possessions later with a block of Rick Fox's potential tying 3-pointer.
Derek Fisher's dunk was partially blocked by Michael Olowokandi and Darius Miles grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 19 seconds to go. He and Brand added free throws to seal it.
McInnis scored 14 points and Olowokandi added 12 with 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Clippers, who shot 44 percent (36-of-82).
George scored 13 points, Fisher added 10 and Walker pulled down 12 boards for the Lakers, who shot 40 percent (32-of-80) and missed 12-of-31 free throws.
Bryant scored eight points in a 13-2 surge that closed the first half and gave the Lakers a 49-35 lead. One of those was a breakaway layup on which he neglected to dunk, drawing boos from the crowd.
After McInnis hit a 3-pointer to pull the Clippers within 59-51 with 4:52 left in the third quarter, Maggette scored 14 points in the final four minutes of the period.
"At halftime, coach told us we needed to come out with a lot more intensity," Maggette said. "He thought we were playing sluggish in the first half."
Maggette made two 3-pointers and four medium-range jump shots, many with Bryant guarding him. After one, he let the All-Star guard have it with an obscenity.
"We were just trash-talking and he hit four threes," Bryant said. "I like my chances in him not knocking down four threes, but he did."
