LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 (Ticker) -- Voshon Lenard led the Denver Nuggets' strong shooting display as Los Angeles Lakers once again played down to the level of their competition.

Lenard came of the bench to score a season-high 29 points on 9-of-11 shooting and James Posey contributed 23 as the Nuggets emphatically ended their 14-game road losing streak with a 107-91 triumph over the reigning NBA champion Lakers.

Lenard's first miss came with eight minutes left. The Nuggets shot 56.5 percent (39-of-69) from the field as Denver beat Los Angeles for the first time in their last five meetings.

Posey had four baskets from 3-point range as Denver made 10-of-17 from beyond the arc. Lenard sank all three of his 3-point attempts.

Shaquille O'Neal had 40 points and 11 rebounds in his return to the Lakers. He had played just six games this month.

The superstar center served a three-game suspension for a fight, was on the injured list for five games with an aching toe and was out of town over the weekend to attend his grandmother's funeral.

The Lakers fell to their fifth last-place team this season as the Nuggets entered the contest in a tie in the cellar of the Midwest Division.

Since starting the campaign with 17 wins in its first 20 games, Los Angeles has lost to the likes of Memphis, Golden State, Chicago and Miami.
