LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The surprising Detroit Pistons look to improve on their Eastern Conference-best record and extend their winning streak to four games when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center on Sunday.

Corliss Williamson scored a season-high 24 points and Jerry Stackhouse had a career-high 13 assists to go with 19 points in Detroit's 99-97 victory over the New York Knicks on Thursday.

However, Stackhouse misfired on the second of two free throws with 6.7 seconds left, giving Latrell Sprewell and the Knicks a chance to tie without a 3-pointer.

After a timeout, Mark Jackson inbounded in the frontcourt to Sprewell, who drove the right side of the lane against the taller Clifford Robinson before launching a fallaway shot that did not drop as time expired.

The Clippers had a three-game winning streak snapped when they fell to Staples Center co-tenant the Los Angeles Lakers, 110-80, on Friday.

The contest was considered a road contest for the Clippers, who played well in a competitive first half and held a 48-44 lead at halftime. They were ahead, 55-49, in the third quarter before the Lakers finally took control.

The Lakers used a 23-7 run for a 72-62 lead. A basket by Shaquille O'Neal and a jumper by Derek Fisher pulled the Lakers into a 59-59 tie with just over four minutes left in the quarter.

A free throw by O'Neal gave the Lakers the lead for good and Fisher added a 3-pointer for a 65-61 edge with 2:27 left. Kobe Bryant's reverse layup capped the spurt.

Lamar Odom scored 17 points and Jeff McInnis added 15 for the Clippers (12-11), who failed to go three games over .500 for the first time since being 6-3 on November 17, 1995.

The Clippers won both matchups against the Pistons last season to snap an eight-game losing streak against them.
