LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (Ticker) -- While the Los Angeles Lakers are going for a "three-peat," they made sure three straight of a different kind did not happen.

Shaquille O'Neal had 28 points and 15 rebounds as the Lakers dominated the second half and avoided a three-game slide with a 110-80 rout of the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Lakers have not lost three straight since December 1998 and coach Phil Jackson has not endured a three-game skid since his Chicago Bulls dropped four straight from January 13-16, 1995, a period when Michael Jordan was not with the team.

The Clippers played well in a competitive first half and held a 48-44 lead at halftime. They were ahead, 55-49, in the third quarter before the Lakers finally took control.

Kobe Bryant had two free throws as the Lakers used a 23-7 run for a 72-62 lead. A basket by O'Neal and a jumper by Derek Fisher pulled the Lakers into a 59-59 tie with just over four minutes left in the quarter.

A free throw by O'Neal gave the Lakers the lead for good and Fisher added a 3-pointer for a 65-61 edge with 2:27 left. Bryant's reverse layup capped the spurt.

Things got out of hand in the fourth quarter as the Lakers outscored the Clippers, 38-15. The Lakers made 14-of-23 shots in the period while the Clippers struggled to make 6-of-23.

Lamar Odom scored 17 points and Jeff McInnis added 15 for the Clippers (12-11), who failed to go three games over .500 for the first time since being 6-3 on November 17, 1995.
