SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 8 (Ticker) -- It takes more than a hyperextended knee to keep Karl Malone out of the lineup.

Malone scored a season-high 39 points as the Utah Jazz defeated the Golden State Warriors, 111-101, in the opener of a four-game homestand.

Malone left in the fourth quarter of Friday's 102-86 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers with a hyperextended left knee, fueling speculation he would sit out Saturday. But he was back in the starting lineup and played 40 minutes, making 14-of-27 shots and 10-of-11 free throws.
