The Bulls made Brand the top overall pick in the 1999 draft and he gave them consecutive seasons averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds. But the team did not improve and Chicago traded Brand to Los Angeles for the rights to high school 7-footer Tyson Chandler, the second overall pick.
The Clippers appeared well on their way to an easy victory as they opened a 95-79 lead with 7:40 to play. But the Bulls went on a 19-2 run and took a 98-97 lead on a 3-pointer by Fred Hoiberg with 1:55 to play.
Rookie Trenton Hassell made three jumpers during the surge, each while being tightly defended by Quentin Richardson.
After the teams traded baskets, Brand's jump shot gave the Clippers the lead for good with 1:08 left. Jeff McInnis nailed a 17-footer and Earl Boykins made three free throws to seal the win.
Brad Miller led Chicago with 19 points and 16 rebounds for his second straight double-double.
