HONOLULU, Oct. 7 (AP) -- Danny Fortson
scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Golden State Warriors over the Los Angeles Lakers 99-89 Sunday night in their opening exhibition game of the season.

The Warriors took advantage of the absence of Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal
, forcing the ball inside and using their fast break. O'Neal was sidelined while recovering from toe surgery.
Los Angeles was also without Derek Fisher
, Mark Madsen
and coach Phil Jackson. Jackson left the team Tuesday after the death of his 94-year-old mother, Elisabeth Jackson, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
added 13 points while fellow rookie Jason Richardson
had 12 points for the Warriors. Antawn Jamison
had five points in limited playing time.
The Warriors jumped out to a 15-point lead on Chris Porter
's layup late in the second quarter. They didn't give up the advantage until Rick Fox
hit a three-pointer to make it 60-59 with 5:30 left in the third quarter.
After exchanging leads five times, the Warriors took a five-point lead into the fourth quarter that they wouldn't
led the Lakers with 30 points, including a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line. He also had five assists.'
The Lakers looked rusty in the first half, turning the ball over 13 times while shooting 35 percent from the field.
The two teams will play again here Tuesday.
