It hadn't happened in 24 years. The last time at least three players averaged at least 30 points per game was during the 1981-82 season. In fact, it had only happened six times before in the 59-year history of the NBA.
Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson and LeBron James have made history, each recording 30-point seasons. Bryant has recorded the eighth highest single-season scoring average of all time and is only the fifth different player in NBA history to ever score 2,800 points in a season.

NOTES
|
| * Before the 1969-70 season, the scoring champion was determined by total points, not points per game. Starting in 1969-70, scoring leaders were determined by points per game. A player must play at least 70 games to qualify. |
