Paul
Feb. 1, 2006
Matched up pretty evenly with another young and promising point guard for most of the game Wednesday, Chris Paul separated himself from the Bulls' Kirk Hinrich in the final minutes. Paul scored six straight points for the Hornets on two jumpers and two free throws, in the process lifting his team's lead from 91-90 with 1:49 left to 97-90 with 26 ticks to go. CP3 added a steal down the stretch to seal the Hornets' 100-95 victory. Paul picked up 11 Nestlé Crunch Time points.

    Duncan
    Feb. 2, 2006
Tim Duncan entered Thursday's game knowing he'll start in the All-Star Game in Houston on Feb. 19. The Spurs relied on No. 21's All-Star pedigree down the stretch in their season-high sixth straight win, 89-86 over Golden State. With the Spurs up one and the shot clock winding down, the forward took a pass from Tony Parker, dribbled once and launched a jumper in traffic from just inside the free-throw line. Nothing but net; Spurs up three with 1:44 left. The Warriors made it a one-point game again, but Duncan's two free throws with 10.2 seconds left closed it out. Duncan earned nine Nestlé Crunch Time points for his efforts.

    Ely
    Feb. 3, 2006
It hasn't been a very happy new year thus far for the Bobcats. Dealing with a slew of injuries, Charlotte had lost 16 of its 17 games in 2006 (including the last 13) heading into Friday's home game vs. January Player of the Month Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. But this night was different from the start. The Bobcats started strong and held on for a 112-102 triumph. Melvin Ely sealed it with a layup off a sweet Raymond Felton feed with 47.9 seconds to go. It drew a foul as well, and Ely's free throw put Charlotte up 109-100. Ely earned seven Nestlé Crunch Time points.

The Magic ended a four-game slide thanks in part to Steve Francis' work on both ends of the court in Crunch Time. With Orlando leading Boston by five, Francis dribbled down the shot clock, pump-faked and buried a 16-footer with 59.4 seconds to go. The Celtics would cut it to five again, but Francis grabbed a defensive rebound with 21 seconds left, was fouled and made both free throws to ice a 100-91 victory. Francis earned 10 Nestlé Crunch Time points.

In OT, Cassell stuck his first two jumpers to start the period and added two foul shots with 15 ticks left to double L.A.'s two-point lead. The Clips held on for a 115-113 road victory. Normally when the Warriors need a big play, they turn to Jason Richardson or Baron Davis. On Monday, the dynamic duo took a backseat to reserve guard Derek Fisher. After the Nuggets used a late spurt to trim the deficit to six, Fisher hit two free throws with 1:52 remaining. He added a jumper, a finger roll and another free throw as Golden State held on for a 122-114 victory. Fisher posted 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, and carried the load for the Warriors in Nestlé Crunch Time.

Sam Cassell has made a career out of knocking down big shots. Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, he added the Knicks to his long list of teams he has made game-changing baskets against. The point guard hit a pair of trifectas in the final two minutes to seal the Clippers' 85-82 victory. Cassell buried his first 3-pointer from the right wing with 1:49 remaining that put the Clippers up, 80-78. After a New York miss, Cassell stepped back and buried another 3-pointer from the right side for an 83-78 edge with 1:13 left. For his efforts, the veteran tallied 11 Nestlé Crunch Time points.

Bobby Simmons returned to the form that earned him last season's Most Improved Player as Milwaukee edged Orlando in double-overtime Wednesday, 94-89. In a game that saw both squads squander nine-point leads, Simmons 3-ball with 26.6 seconds remaining in regulation forced the first OT, where his jumper put the Bucks up by four. After the Magic fought back once again, Milwaukee would not be denied in the double-bonus and Simmons' four free throws made sure of it. Miami's Dwyane Wade has had many memorable performances in his young career, but Sunday's was something special. He scored the Heat's final 17 points, including the go-ahead jumper with 2.3 seconds to play in a much-needed 100-98 victory over Detroit. Before delivering the knockout punch, Wade kept Miami going with clutch shot after clutch shot. He cut the deficit to 96-94 with 1:57 to go on a fadeaway jumper, narrowed it to two again with 1:24 remaining on a jumper and knotted the game at 98 with 55 ticks left. New Orleans/Oklahoma City's David West has been a huge reason for the Hornets' turnaround this year. When the Hornets need a big bucket, they often turn to West, as they did again on Monday night. With 0.5 seconds remaining and New Orleans/Oklahoma City down one point, the ball was inbounded to him at the top of they key for a quick catch-and-shoot that found nothing but the bottom of the net. The Hornets' 97-96 home win over Washington was their fourth in a row, and third straight without rookie phenom Chris Paul. He scored Atlanta's first six points in OT on a trio of jumpers and added a free throw down the stretch in a 117-112 victory. Before Johnson forced the extra session, he scored a pair of baskets in the final minute, pulling the Hawks within a bucket each time. Nowitzki
    Feb. 25, 2006
Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki outdid himself on Saturday. The Mavs were down 24 to the Raptors late in the third quarter when the momentum began to swing. Dallas rallied back to tie the game with just over a minute left when Nowtizki hit a shot to put the Mavs up two. With less than a second left in regulation and the game tied, Nowitzki made a game-saving block of Mike James's shot to send the game into overtime. It was in OT when Nowitzki completely took over. Nowitzki hit a driving layup with 51 seconds remaining to put Dallas up three. Then he came the other way on defense to block James' shot again. With the game tied at 113 after a 3-pointer by the Raptors' Matt Bonner, Nowitzki answered by stepping back and drilling a fall-away jumper with one second left to give the Mavs a 115-113 home victory. The win marked the second biggest comeback in franchise history. Dirk finished the game with 32 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, two steals and 20 Nestlé Crunch points.

    West
    Feb. 26, 2006
After matching the Blazers point for point at the half and after three quarters, it seemed as if the Hornets were due for another nailbiter on Sunday. David West made sure that didn't happen. He scored 12 fourth-quarter points, including six key ones down the stretch to help New Orleans/Oklahoma City lock the game up. The Hornets used an 8-0 run to pull away midway through the quarter and 6-foot-9 West delivered a jam with two minutes to play for an 83-71 edge. He added a jumper with 1:20 to play and a pair of free throws the rest of the way in an 88-75 win at Portland. West finished with 22 points on the night and tallied 10 Nestlé Crunch points.

    Smith
    Feb. 27, 2006
When the Hawks need a big shot, they normally turn to Al Harrington or Joe Johnson. Monday night, Josh Smith showed that he is capable of stepping up in the clutch, too. The 2005 NBA dunking champ hit a pair of pivotal jump shots as Atlanta topped visiting New Jersey, 104-102 in overtime. Smith made a jumper with 33.9 seconds left in the extra period to give the Hawks a four-point lead. He also knocked down a jumper with 4.9 ticks to play in regulation to tie the game at 94. Smith, who finished with 19 points and nine rebounds, earned 11 Nestlé Crunch points.

    Ridnour
    Feb. 28, 2006
A furious rally by the Hornets chopped Seattle's 23-point third-quarter lead down to three in the final period. Sonics guard Luke Ridnour made sure the New Orleans/Oklahoma City comeback didn't get any closer. Ridnour drained a jumper with 1:39 left and added another jump shot with 50.8 ticks remaining as Seattle closed the game on a 15-8 run en route to posting a 114-104 win Tuesday. Ridnour, who scored 10 and gave out nine assists, had nine Nestlé Crunch points.
