2004 OVERVIEW
The Heat overhauled their roster in 2004, pushing all their chips to the middle of the table by trading for one Shaquille O'Neal. The gambit almost worked, as the Heat came within one game of the NBA Finals. O'Neal found a new, more agreeable partner in second year phenom Dwayne Wade, who became a full fledged star under Shaq's enormous wing.
Miami's other players had little to minimal fantasy impact. Eddie Jones had the worst campaign of his career. Damon Jones and Udonis Haslem were both buoyed by O'Neal's presence and became marginal Fantasy players in the process.

Key Bench Guys / Positional Battles:
James Posey is an underrated fantasy player, but will likely be given the role of defensive stopper. If Walker goes down with injury or disgruntlement, Posey will be great waiver wire material. Alonzo Mourning could be a source of blocks in very deep leagues and is nice insurance if (when) Shaq needs to take a week or two off during the season. Dorell Wright should have an expanded role this year, but won't have any fantasy value.
THE GUY ON THIS TEAM THAT WE LOVE:
Aside from the obvious (Shaq and Wade), Jason Williams should flourish with his new, higher profile team - if he can stay clear of the injury bug. His touches will be harder to come by (as they will for everybody), but that should be offset by the expanded minutes that he'll find now that he's out of Memphis.
THE GUYS ON THIS TEAM WE SUGGEST YOU AVOID:
We're not saying "don't draft him," but if you look up and down Miami's roster, there are several large, pretty red flags a-flappin' by Antoine Walker's name. First, he could rank as, at best, the third scoring option. Even if he cowboys up and plays the good soldier, his production will dip. And, let us add that even in full fettle, Walker has never been a friend to your FG percentage. Antoine, there's a difference between liking to shoot and being able to shoot.

All eyes will be on Miami to justify these big moves. One big question is how Stan Van Gundy is going to be able to give all of his starters their requisite touches. Trust us, we don't see Udonis Haslem being much of a problem, but you're talking about four other guys that will all demand the ball. An even bigger question will be how long Stan Van Gundy will remain the coach if he fails to run away with the Eastern Conference. There is a good chance Pat Riley will take over the reins of the Heat by midseason.
On the fantasy front, the end result of the added depth will be a dip in everyone's production. Wade will shift to shooting guard full-time. It's a good bet that his assists will dip, while his rebounds - already impressive for a guard - may climb. Walker is projected to start at small forward. He's going to get a boatload of threes, but rebounds will be harder to come by with Shaq, Haslem and Wade all crashing the boards with aplomb.
Haslem will continue to get his share of boards, but his scoring may fall even further from its already unimpressive average. However, should the Heat struggle, one option may be to move Posey to small forward, with Haslem shifting to the bench. Until such a shift happens, Posey will be only useful in deeper leagues.
