A weekly look inside the NBA Cares Celebrity Fantasy League
PLANET HOLLYWOOD FANTASY, Nov. 19, 2006 -- Bill Simmons is mean.
OK, maybe not mean. But he's hell-bent on becoming the NBA Cares Celebrity Fantasy League's Gordon Gekko:
"The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind."
Bill wants nothing more than to own, to crush and to dominate every aspect of the NCCFL.
How else can you explain how someone who won the league last year, who's 3-0 this season and who just clobbered Sam Jackson by 250-plus points puts every guard on the trading block in search of a forward at 9:35 p.m. ET, two hours after he put every forward on his roster up on the block?

"All the crappy teams get to cherry-pick the best free agents each week and the teams that actually picked good teams and have been winning don't get to improve. Next year I'm pulling a Bernie Mac and tanking the first 2 weeks so I can pick up Andres Biedrins on my team. Oh, wait, Bernie didn't intentionally tank the first 2 weeks? I'm sorry... my bad."
Bill will be happy to know he has the second pick in the waiver wire derby this week.
Simmons isn't the only happy camper this week as Kenny Smith (with a total thrashing of Dean Cain), George Lopez (with a satisfying win over Meat Loaf, who was hurt by Steve Nash' absence) and Bernie Mac (without Shaq, notched a slim win over Jimmy Kimmel and Cousin Sal) got off the schneid.
Cain, meanwhile, stays on the schneid. He's the only celeb without a win so far.

Why is George Lopez smiling? Because he got his first win in last week's action.

Also impressive this week was Spike Lee. Thanks to impressive performances from LeBron James and Vince Carter, Lee took previously undefeated Will Ferrell behind the woodshed.
Speaking of striking, have you seen Pam Rock lately? (You can click on that link if you have an office with a door. If you have a cube and everyone can see your screen, I suggest not.) You can also get a good view of Pam Rock's impressive numbers in the NCCFL. With Baron Davis and Gilbert Arenas manning the guard positions, and the scoring emphasis in the league being on three-pointers, steals and blocks, Pam Rock looks like they'll be in business for a while.
Then again, it helped that their opponent, the previously unbeaten Adam McKay had Andrei Kirilenko and Troy Murphy in his lineup this week. Neither played because of injury.
Should be an exciting week coming up. Despite the L being off for Thanksgiving, everyone has plenty of games this week: tons of back-to-backs, lots of four-game weeks.
Enjoy the holiday. We'll be back next week with another update.
