A weekly look inside the NBA Cares Celebrity Fantasy League

PLANET HOLLYWOOD FANTASY, Jan. 22, 2007 --

Even Craig and Arianna couldn’t have uplifted Will Ferrell’s team this week.

The Perfect Cheer. The boombox. A dance. Everything.

Nothing would have worked.

Pam Anderson/Kid Rock defeated Will Ferrell’s squad this week, one week after Ferrell had won the “Best Motion Picture – Drama” award last week.

(Way to spoil the party, Pam/Rock).

The former Vallery Irons got her V.I.P. on and teamed up with Kid Rock to go "Bawitdaba" on Will Ferrell’s squad, winning 1200.5 to 1130.5. Gilbert Arenas (are you surprised?), the emerging Andre Iguodala (thank you, A.I.) and Mehmet Okur (38 points on Monday) helped to make the difference this week. Ferrell dropped only his second loss of the season. Word on the street is that he’s gone to crash some weddings as a way to handle the loss.

Bill Simmons, who gets more and more depressed as the Celtics season goes on, had something to smile about as he’s now tied for the league’s top record at 10-2 (thanks to Ferrell’s loss). Simmons defeated Kenny Smith this week, 1200-873. It appears that Kenny Smith has fallen asleep at the wheel. Smith has dropped five of his last six contests, with the only win during that time coming against the struggling Bernie Mac. Kenny kept the injured Michael Redd in his lineup this week. Such strategy will not bode well for the road to recovery.

George Lopez was out on the links at the Bob Hope Chrysler Celebrity Classic all last week, which might have led to his demise against Jimmy Kimmel and Cousin Sal’s team. Lopez’ squad was winning for much of the week but couldn’t outlast Kimmel, who eventually took the cookies (1023-990) and posted his fourth win of the season. Meanwhile, George Lopez's team dropped to 3-9, having lost five of six like Smith. Lopez, while reflecting on the season thus far, continued to ask himself, “Why You Crying?”

Where did Samuel L. Jackson come from? Sam has rolled off five wins in the last six games after defeating Spike Lee, 1132-1006. After the win, I asked Samuel L. how he’s been able to do it. He responded, "If my answers frighten you, then you should cease asking scary questions." (more) Hm… whatever you say, Sam. On the other end, Spike Lee will try to get back on track and Do The Right Thing against George Lopez this week.

Even Dean Cain’s highest points total for the year wasn’t good enough to win this week. That has seemed to be his luck this season. It will take one heck of an effort to resurrect his season. Maybe Superman can do it. I’m sure Cain can put in some calls and make it happen. Meat Loaf, led by Jason Kidd, Steve Nash and Josh Smith, put up 1264 points to win his ninth match-up of the season. He’s certainly come into this league like a Bat Out of Hell, wouldn’t you say? He’s won seven of his last eight contests.

Not only that, but look who was busy in the trade room this past week? After hours of negotiations, Meat Loaf and Samuel L. Jackson agreed to a big deal on Friday, January 19. Meat Loaf sent Josh Smith, Josh Childress and Jannero Pargo to Sam’s Squad for Elton Brand, Jason Terry and Matt Barnes. We’ll see what gives following this deal!

And would you look here… Mr. 3000 puts one up in the Dub-ya column! Following seven straight losses, Bernie Mac defeated Adam McKay, 1027-958. The injury bug continues to plague McKay’s team. After starting the season 5-1, McKay has posted a 1-5 record since. Injuries to Rashard Lewis, Gerald Wallace, Chris Paul and others caused potholes in McKay's road to success.

That wraps up another week in the NBA Cares Celebrity Fantasy League, folks. Celeb league sources have confirmed that trade talks have been plentiful lately. Be sure to tune in to follow the action.

Until then… Peace!
