Rasheed Wallace: Loses Weight in Offseason
Update: Wallace has lost 25 pounds since last season and has been a daily participant in the Pistons' offseason workouts, the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Detroit coach Flip Saunders reached out to Wallace during the offseason, after Wallace blew up at Saunders in a Game 5 loss to Cleveland in Eastern Conference finals. "We have talked," Saunders said. "He understands that I respect him and I expect the same type of respect." Saunders is writing a new playbook for the season that will integrate the next generation of Pistons (Rodney Stuckey, Amir Johnson, Jason Maxiell, Arron Afflalo) with the seasoned vets (Wallace, Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Antonio McDeyess).
John Edwards: Signs With T-Wolves
Update: Edwards signed a one-year contract with Minnesota.
Analysis: He'll add depth at center with Mark Madsen out a few months after shoulder surgery. He's a long shot for fantasy value even with the T-Wolves roster in flux.
Elton Brand: Elton Brand: Cast Removed from Leg
Update: Brand had the cast removed from his left leg and was fitted for a removable walking boot Tuesday, six weeks after he had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles' tendon, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: The Clippers said Brand will begin a rehabilitation program. Brand is expected to wear the walking boot for six weeks. He is expected to miss at least the first several months of the season.
Royal Ivey: Royal Ivey: Signs One-Year Deal with Bucks
Update: Ivey signed a one-year contract with the Bucks on Tuesday.
Analysis: No details of the contract were given. Ivey can play both guard positions, so perhaps this will help Milwaukee plug the hole left by Charlie Bell's likely departure.
Jorge Garbajosa: More Tests On Leg
Update: The Raptors are still concerned that Garbajosa may need surgery to further repair his damaged fibula, despite his participation in EuroBasket 2007, the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: Garbajosa will undergo more tests this week in Spain. The Raptors medical staff recommended surgery, but Garbajosa got a second opinion from Spanish doctors, who said physical therapy is an option. "You can't force anyone to have surgery," Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said Monday. "He opted for the (physical therapy) and basketball option."
