James Posey: Will Fight One-Game Suspension
Update: Posey will fight a league-imposed one-game suspension after pleading no-contest to a charge of reckless driving stemming from an April arrest in Miami on a drunken driving charge, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Posey agreed to a lesser charge and was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service, complete six months of probation, pay assorted costs, fines and donations, and attend classes for driving under the influence. The NBA was unable to discipline Posey while he was a free agent, then acted when he signed with Boston last week. Posey's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said his client will appeal the NBA's decision because the plea bargain was designed entirely to get the matter adjudicated so that Posey could seek a new team without the uncertainty of an unresolved legal situation.
Charlie Bell: Considering Other Offers
Update: Bell's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said his client is considering offers from several European teams and one unnamed NBA team, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Bell's discussions with the Bucks have reached an impasse and Bartelstein said Bell wants to make a decision soon. "It's the Bucks' prerogative. They've got to do business, and Charlie's got to do what is best for Charlie," Bartelstein said. "The reality of it is, if the Bucks wanted him, they have the ability to sign him." Though Bell's played well for Milwaukee when injuries hit front line players, the Bucks protected themselves with the addition of Desmond Mason in the offseason. Bell could accept Milwaukee's one-year qualifying offer of around $900,000 and become an unrestricted free agent next summer, but general manager Larry Harris maintained hopes of signing Bell to a multi-year deal.
Orien Greene: Officially Signs With Sacramento
Update: Greene officially signed a contract with Sacramento on Friday, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Analysis: It is believed to be a one year contract and partially guaranteed. The defensive specialist will battle for a roster spot at backup point guard.
