Kwame Brown: Signs with Pistons
Update: Brown signed a two-year contract with the Pistons on Monday, ESPN reports.
Analysis: The deal is reportedly worth $8 million over two years. Several teams had interest in Brown, but the Pistons were never mentioned as a possible suitor. MLive.com speculates that the deal may be a precursor to a trade since it seemingly came out of nowhere. If Brown does stay in Detroit, he will likely back up Antonio McDyess at center.
Ricky Davis: Signs with Clippers
Update: Davis signed a multi-year deal with the Clippers on Monday, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: The Clippers will likely use Davis as a shooter off the bench; he averaged 13.8 points and 4.3 rebounds last season for the Heat.
Bobby Jones: Traded to Knicks
Update: Jones, along with Taurean Green and a 2010 second-round pick, was traded to the Knicks on Monday in exchange for Renaldo Balkman, NY Newsday reports.
Analysis: Jones doesn't have a guaranteed contract, and will likely end up being waived by the Knicks. New York made the trade primarily to rid themselves of Balkman, who didn't fit into new coach Mike D'Antoni's plans.
Taurean Green: Traded to Knicks
Update: Green, along with Bobby Jones and a 2010 second-round pick, was traded to the Knicks on Monday in exchange for Renaldo Balkman, NY Newsday reports.
Analysis: Green doesn't have a guaranteed contract, and the seldom-used guard will likely be waived by Knicks. New York made the move primarily because Balkman did not fit into new coach Mike D'Antoni's offensive system.
Renaldo Balkman: Traded to Denver
Update: Balkman was traded to the Nuggets on Monday in exchange for Taurean Green, Bobby Jones and a 2010 second-round draft pick, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Balkman's numbers dropped across the board last season in his second year with the Knicks, but the Nuggets are hoping he can provide some defensive intensity to a team that figures to struggle in that area this season.
Josh Smith: Sign and Trade Offers
Update: The Hawks have at least two sign-and-trade proposals involving Smith to consider, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
Analysis: We thought the Hawks would re-sign Smith fairly quickly after losing Josh Childress to Europe, but apparently the organization is not on the same page as Smith with regard to his market value.
