This is the first chance for the Minnesota Timberwolves to assess what life looks like without Kevin Garnett. The 10-time All Star and 12-year Timberwolves stalwart was traded away this off-season following yet another disappointing season, where the team failed to make the playoffs, finishing nine games below .500. The team is in a rebuilding phase, and features exciting young players with great athleticism and potential. The post-KG era for Minnesota starts with this game.

Efes Pilsen is one of Euroleague Basketball's most consistent teams having made the Final Four in 2000 and finishing one step short of the Final Four from 2002 to 2006. The team is often called the ‘Pride of Turkey’. Efes has won 12 Turkish League titles including four consecutive titles between 2002 and 2005, are seven-time Turkish National Cup winners and became the first Turkish club team to win European silverware when they won the 1996 Korac Cup. They will provide a stern test for the young Minnesota team, especially in front of the passionate Istanbul crowd. This game is also an opportunity to see Cenk Akyol, the Turkish 20-year old who was drafted in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.
