After playing Unicája Málaga, the Grizzlies will face another Spanish team, MMT Estudiantes. This is another opportunity for the brand new Grizzlies basketball operations division to evaluate the new Grizzlies. The team’s motto for this season is “The Future Starts NOW”, and they seem intent on delivering on that: in addition to the GM and coaching staff changes, the team has added certain important pieces on the court, including the No. 4 overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Mike Conley Jr, and the former second overall pick, Darko Milicic. This will be a good test to evaluate how ready the new team is to fight for a playoff berth in the NBA’s Western Conference.

MMT Estudiantes was founded in 1948 and has come very close to European silverware on several occasions. They were runners up in the Korac Cup in 1999 and made it to the semi-finals of the ULEB Cup in 2003 and 2004 and the semi-finals of the FIBA EuroCup in 2007. The team failed to make the playoffs last season after losing their star Sergio Rodriguez to the Portland Trailblazers of the NBA. However, they have added significant strength and depth to their roster this off-season and are looking to make a run in the ACB. A strong performance against an NBA team could be just the ticket the team needs to do well in the ACB in the 2007-08 season.
