Areas Of Strength:
With a healthy Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut, the Bucks had been in the thick of the Playoffs race. But when both went down within 10 days of each other in January, the Bucks' postseason hopes faded. The Bucks traded swingman Richard Jefferson to the Spurs two days before the Draft, but even with his departure, it may not be bleak for Milwaukee. Bogut and the Bucks play above-average defense, a defense which improved with the arrival of coach Scott Skiles last season. Richard Mbah a Moute was a great second-round find for the Bucks last season.Needs Work:
Depth and health ... and they are intertwined. Bogut has missed 65 games in the last three years and Redd has missed an astonishing 88. Without their two best players, the Bucks have had to go deep into their bench, which is full of decent role players but not with players who should be starting in the NBA on a regular basis. Because of his health issues and his large contract, it would be difficult to move Redd, and Bogut just signed an extension. The Bucks need to get well and fast. That, and they need bulk in the post, specifically at power forward.
Two Stats That Matter:
- 4 -- No. 1 overall Draft picks since 1966, the most in the NBA.
- 20.5-- Michael Redd's career scoring average, highest in Buck's history for a non-first round pick.
The Way To Go:
Milwaukee faces big decisions this summer with free agents Charlie Villanueva and Ramon Sessions. Both players were key in keeping Milwaukee in the Playoffs race until the injury bug hit. Even with Redd, the Bucks were among the bottom half of the league in 3-point shooting and field goal percentage, which means Milwaukee could be in the market for another marksman or a dependable backup to Bogut.
