Areas of Strength:

Talent and experience. When healthy, the Celtics are a championship-level team and can be for another couple of years as Garnett's three-year extension kicks in at the beginning of next season. They have a nice mix of verteran leadership in Garnett, Pierce and Allen with intriguing young talent in Rondo, Perkins and Davis.

Needs Work:

Depth. With KG on the shelf because of a knee injhury and Powe out with a torn ACL, the Celtics' frontcourt has suffered in the postseason even asfter the team signed Moore to provide a punch off the bench. After the top seven or eight players, the aren't enought scoring, rebounding or playmaking guards to sustatin them if someone gets injured.

Two Stats That Matter:

  • Plus 260-- According to 82games.com, Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett and Perkins make up the most productive five-man plus/minus in the league.
  • 17.2.-- Joe Johnson's career scoring average, the highest of any Celtics Draft pick in the last decade. Johnson now plays with the Atlanta Hawks.

The Way To Go:

Boston only has one pick-- the 58th overall. The Celtics won't get much of a contributor there. And the contracts that do come off the books this season-- Moore and marbury-- don't give the Celtics much room, if any, to pursue free agents. The Celtics may be able to retain them for a pittance, or Boston can do what it has done each of the past two seasons-- pick up a veteran or two for reduced salaries in the middle of the season.
