Career Highlights: Two-time captain for the Blue Devils. Finished career 33rd all-time in scoring (1,336 points), 28th in rebounds (606), 14th in three-pointers made (124), 13th in three-point percentage (.373) and 21st in steals (145). One of only six players in school history to record 1,300 points, 600 rebounds, 200 assists and 125 steals.
Senior (2007-08): Named ACC Defensive Player of the Year, All-ACC First Team and ACC Coaches’ All-Defensive Team. Named to the ACC All-Tournament Second Team after leading Duke with 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals. Selected CollegeHoops.net Honorable Mention All-America, NABC All-District 5 First Team and USBWA All-District III Team. Finished 13th in ACC in scoring (14.5 ppg), 17th in rebounding (5.8 rpg) and fourth in field goal percentage (.490). Averaged 13.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals in three games at the Maui Invitational to earn All-Tournament honors. Recorded a career-high 27 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and one block at Maryland.
Junior (2006-07): Honorable Mention All-ACC and All-Defensive Team (media) selection. ACC Coaches All-Defensive Team pick. Ranked 18th in ACC in scoring and tied for seventh in field-goal percentage (.478). Led the Blue Devils in scoring, field goals and steals. One of only two guards in ACC to average more than 5.0 rebounds. Raised his scoring average 7.0 points from his sophomore campaign. Scored in double figures in 28 of 33 games.
Sophomore (2005-06): Played in 24 games with seven starts, averaging 21.5 minutes, 7.1 points and 3.4 rebounds. Shot .455 from the field (61-of-134) and .410 from beyond the arc (25-of-61). Recorded a season-high 17 points vs. No. 13 UNC.
Freshman (2004-05): Named to ACC All-Freshman Team after averaging 6.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.8 steals in 19.2 minutes. One of five Duke players to see action in every game. Recorded four points and six rebounds in 24 minutes in ACC Championship win over Georgia Tech.
Strengths: Athletic and tough-minded guard who plays bigger than his size. Very aggressive at both ends of the floor. Very good rebounder for his size.
Personal: Holds the California state high school record with 3,462 career points. Was in line to earn a spot on the 2007 Pan Am Games team before suffering a left wrist injury. Led the USA Basketball Men’s Youth Development Festival in scoring (25.4 ppg) in 2003. Son of Ron and Denise Nelson. One of four children.
