Irrespective of the banter between LeBron James and DeShawn Stevenson, the Cavs and the Wizards played some solid basketball in the First Round of the 2008 Playoffs. Unfortunately for Washington, the Cavs advanced after they defeated the Wizards in the series 4-2.
Gilbert Arenas only played 13 regular season games as a result of a left knee injury. With Agent Zero sidelined for the majority of the year, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison stepped up to help compensate for the offensive fire power that Arenas offers. However even Butler missed 24 matchups because of a partial tear of a labrum in his left hip.
Despite the injuries of two key players, the Wizards still managed to finish fifth in the East, proving that they own a strong supporting cast. And that is a good thing because it is a possibility that Antawn Jamson and Gilbert Arenas will not return next season. Jamison is a free agent this year and Arenas has an early termination option. With many decisions to be made in the offseason, the success the Wizards have had this season despite the injuries just may be an indication that they can excel regardless of what the future holds for the team's stars.
"The team holds the 18th and 48th picks in the June 26 NBA draft. Grunfeld said he is open to adding a player with the first-round pick but also will consider packaging the pick if a good trade opportunity presents itself."
