The Kings are coming off Reggie Theus' first season as the coach on the sidelines in Sacramento and Mike Bibby's last as the coach on the floor. Back on February 16 Bibby was sent to the Hawks in exchange for Anthony Johnson, Tyronn Lue, Shelden Williams, Lorenzen Wright and a 2008 second round draft pick. Bibby's absence and Beno Udrih's free agency status creates a glaring hole at the point guard position. The answer at the one could be D.J. Augustin from Texas or Russell Westbrook from UCLA according to the NBA.com Consensus Mock Draft.
Sacramento can score, it's 102.5 points per game average was eighth best in the league and good enough to get the Kings 38 wins while playing in the tough-as-nails Western Conference. It's their defense that needs a boost, as the regal boys let up 104.8 points per game which was 24th in the NBA. Sacramento could be looking for a defensive-minded big man with its No. 42 or No. 43 picks since Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Spencer Hawes and Brad Miller are all big men with scoring on the brain.
"It's just fun speculation, of course, because the Kings never would spend a lottery pick on a center for the second year in a row. Or on a power forward who is curiously identical to the Spencer Hawes selection of 2007 in ways both pleasing and concerning. Or a point guard with much to prove about being a point guard. Or a small forward when the coach shovels praise on the one they already have.
Except it's not just for fun. It's real and it's possible."
