Feeling a sense of deja-vu, Orlando's season ended with Detroit in the playoffs just as it did in the 2006-07 season. However this season the Magic showed improvement, facing the Pistons in the Conference Semifinals instead of the First Round and taking the series to five games instead of being swept in four.
With Stan Van Gundy at the helm this year, the Magic made great strides. Dwight Howard remained the centerpiece, as he averaged 20.7 points and 14.2 rebounds in the regular season. Adding Rashard Lewis to the mix this year proved to be effective, as he provided the Magic with further firepower. The Magic owned the fourth best three-point shooting percentage, nailing 38.6 percent of their shots from beyond the arc. While they failed to get past the Pistons once again, Dwight Howard is only 22-years old. The franchise will continue to develop the young center, while they place talent around him that complements his dominant play.
"Magic General Manager Otis Smith said Wednesday that he won't make personnel moves with just Detroit in mind, but he hopes to be active improving the team well beyond just adding another year of experience."
