The Nets dealt Jason Kidd and are moving on with a backcourt of Devin Harris and Vince Carter. After the trade, they were a more potent offensive team, but their defense has fallen way off from where it was when they were an Eastern Conference contender. The first priority for the Nets this summer should be establishing a new identity. But no matter what type of team they decide to be, they need an interior presence and they need shooters to benefit from the playmaking of Harris and Carter.
"Of course, Vandeweghe didn't dismiss the notion of making the right trade or playing the free-agent market; it is widely believed around the organization that he and his boss, team president Rod Thorn, are prepared to part with Richard Jefferson if the price is right. There is no big fish to target in the market, however, but they do have the green light to spend exception money on talent that could fit the system."
