Who would have thought? The young guns from Atlanta forced a Game 7 against the seasoned vets from Boston in the First Round of the 2008 Playoffs. Unexpected but exciting nonetheless, the Hawks played fearless basketball against the Celtics at the Philips Arena during the postseason, but failed to finish them off on the road, losing Game 7 to the Celtics 99-65.
Despite exiting in the First Round, the Hawks proved they have a solid young group. Rookie Al Horford dominated the paint, as the starting center averaged near a double-double in the regular season with 10.1 points and 9.7 rebounds. Joe Johnson and Josh Smith acted as the team's go-to guys, as they averaged 21.7 and 17.2 points respectively. Mike Bibby joined the squad mid-way through the season and provided veteran leadership. However, this team is all about youth, as they are good now but have shown the potential to be great.
"Josh Smith and Josh Childress. I’m combining these two cats since the bottom line is the same. PAY UP! Just go ahead and pay these cats and get it over with. I’ve maintained since last summer that the Hawks should have paid both of these guys and locked them up early when they could set the price instead of playing out a season and allowing the market to do so."
