Analysis:
The Magic made it to the postseason for the first time in four years, but were swept by Detroit in the first round. In the regular season, Dwight Howard led the squad with 17.6 points, 12.3 boards and 1.90 blocks per game. Jameer Nelson and Trevor Ariza made tremendous strides, demonstrating athleticism along with a high basketball IQ. After Billy Donovan decided to return the University of Florida, the Magic had to send their No. 39 pick to Miami as part of the compensation package for hiring Stan Van Gundy.

From The Media:
"New Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy huddled Monday at his South Florida home with General Manager Otis Smith, formulating plans to hire a staff and move forward with revamping his roster through the upcoming draft, potential trades and next month's free-agency period. Van Gundy spent the weekend contacting many of the current players by phone, introducing himself while soliciting their ideas and input."
